Interesting Gold Stories Rarely Start Where Everyone Is Looking

Most investors say they want to be early.

Early rarely feels comfortable.

It has missing pieces. It has surface samples instead of full confirmation. It has drilling underway, not final answers.

So many people wait.

They wait for the bigger headline. The institutional coverage. The cleaner story. The moment the financial media finally catches up.

By then, the setup has usually changed.

A small explorer is working in a frontier gold-copper region, near a proven multi-billion-dollar producer.

It has a large land package, high-grade surface samples, and a second drill now turning.

Still early.

Still uncertain.

That is exactly the phase many investors miss.

Look closer at the story before it becomes obvious…

GM’s Hands-Free Push Is a Subscription Play, Not Just a Tech Flex

General Motors has spent years positioning Super Cruise as its answer to Tesla’s Autopilot and Ford’s BlueCruise. But the expansion of hands-free driving into a growing roster of premium SUVs, including the new Cadillac Vistiq and the Escalade IQ, is less a technology arms race and more a deliberate land grab for high-margin subscription income.

The numbers bear that out. GM told investors its OnStar business generated $800 million in recognized revenue in Q2 2026, up more than 20% year-over-year, as subscriber growth and Super Cruise fuel its digital expansion. For the full year, GM says it is on track to deliver realized revenue of over $3 billion and deferred revenue approaching $7.5 billion by the end of 2026. That is not car-company math. That is closer to software-company math, and it starts with getting hands-free hardware into as many premium driveways as possible.

Nearly 750,000 Super Cruise-enabled vehicles across 23 models in North America have contributed to the system’s milestone of one billion cumulative hands-free miles. Over the past year, GM says its Super Cruise equipped vehicle population grew about 70%, and it expects Super Cruise subscriptions to exceed 850,000 by the end of 2026.

The Cadillac lineup is carrying the premium weight. The all-new Vistiq, a three-row SUV, debuts with enhanced Super Cruise that integrates with Google Maps for lane navigation. The system is also offered across the CT4, CT5, Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade IQ, LYRIQ, OPTIQ, and VISTIQ, among others. For buyers spending $80,000 or more on a three-row Cadillac, hands-free highway driving is no longer a differentiator. It is table stakes.

The stickiness of the model is what traders should focus on. Starting with the 2025 model year, GM includes an eight-year OnStar Basics package with new vehicles, and Super Cruise-equipped vehicles include a three-year OnStar plan that supports Super Cruise. GM has said its attach rate after the three-year pre-paid period remains in the 30% to 40% range. That conversion rate, still with room to grow, is what drives the deferred revenue stack.

The roadmap extends well beyond current capability. GM has said it plans to introduce hands-off, eyes-off capability in 2028, with the Cadillac Escalade IQ as the launch vehicle. GM also says supervised testing of its next-generation system began on limited-access highways in California and Michigan in March 2026. The eyes-off system is built on redundancy, including lidar, and it will run on GM’s next-generation centralized computing platform.

That hardware constraint is actually a feature for GM’s strategy. Every new premium SUV buyer locked into the Super Cruise ecosystem today is a potential upgrader when eyes-off capability arrives. GM and outside analysts have pointed to gross margins around 70% for this software and services business, making it an increasingly important pillar beyond vehicle sales. Expanding Super Cruise to more luxury SUVs is how GM builds the subscriber base that funds the next leap. The hands-free miles are the product. The subscriptions are the business.
