CoreWeave Reports Tonight
Five post-earnings selloffs. Tonight is the test.
First a note from The Oxford Club
Dear Reader,
When Bryan Bottarelli first showed me what he dug about a secretive project called “The Presidio Initiative“…
I admit I was stunned.
I was also concerned… “Can we even publish this?” I wondered.
For one, the research Bryan discovered involves a secret history of Elon Musk that hasn’t ever been revealed quite like this before.
Second, this involves a project which originated on a former military base. It might cause problems with powerful people if we reveal too much, including the specific location.
Third, Bryan names. Lots of names.
And lastly, Bryan is making an extraordinary promise about an opportunity directly related to his research. Bryan says this “could generate as many as 410 new millionaires… per day.”
That’s a bold claim.
In the end, we decided to publish Bryan’s research on “The Presidio Initiative”… which includes a special video you can see here.
Yours in smart speculation,
Ryan Fitzwater, CEO
Monument Traders Alliance
P.S. Make sure you check out this video now, as it’s still possible we’ll pull this down if the controversy becomes unmanageable.
CoreWeave Reports Tonight. Five Selloffs in a Row.
Market Snapshot
Markets are doing almost nothing. The S&P 500 sits near 7,757, the Dow at 54,035, and the Nasdaq around 26,587. All three are within striking distance of the record highs set last week. The Russell 2000 is outperforming slightly, up 0.54% intraday. The broader tone is cautious rather than fearful: VIX is at 15.30, up modestly but not flashing stress.
The macro overlay is the real story. The 10-year Treasury yield rose to 4.73% this morning, its highest level since January, as surging oil prices reinforced market expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise rates. Oil is the pressure point: Brent briefly touched $89 before pulling back on reports from Pakistan suggesting a possible resolution to the U.S.-Iran standoff over the Strait of Hormuz. Crude is now hovering near $82. Gold is at $4,418. Bitcoin has pulled back to roughly $63,866.
On the corporate side, Nvidia jumped 1.5% after announcing a $500 billion AI infrastructure financing initiative with Apollo, Blackstone, Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, Brookfield, and KKR. Intel extended its recent slide. Datadog is up sharply following a strong Q2 beat last week. The dominant market tone: risk-on with an inflationary undertow, held in place by tomorrow’s CPI data.
- S&P 500: ~7,757 / near all-time high
- Nasdaq: ~26,587 / ~2% from all-time high
- Dow: ~54,035 / near record
- Russell 2000: ~3,033 / outperforming
- VIX: 15.30 / mildly elevated
- 10-Year Treasury: 4.73% / near January highs
- Crude Oil (WTI): ~$82 / volatile on Iran headlines
- Gold: $4,418 / modest bid
- Bitcoin: ~$63,866 / slight pullback
- Overnight Futures: S&P +0.07%, Nasdaq +0.23%
Market Tone in Two Sentences: Equities are consolidating near record highs with no urgency in either direction, waiting for tomorrow’s July CPI to tell them which way the Fed leans in September. Geopolitical noise around Iran and Hormuz is keeping oil elevated and yields sticky, which is the friction that keeps this from being a clean rally day.
Stocks in Focus
CoreWeave (CRWV) — The Session’s Central Event
What happened: CoreWeave reports Q2 2026 results after the close tonight, with the conference call at 5:00 PM ET. Wall Street expects revenue of roughly $2.55 to $2.56 billion, representing approximately 111% year-over-year growth, and a loss of approximately $1.21 to $1.23 per share. The company’s own Q2 guidance was $2.45 to $2.60 billion, putting consensus near the top of the range.
Why it matters: Revenue is not the real debate. CoreWeave has delivered triple-digit top-line growth consistently. The market is testing something harder: whether adjusted operating margin is recovering from Q1’s 1% (down from 17% a year earlier), whether the $99.4 billion revenue backlog is expanding, and whether Q3 guidance shows a credible second-half ramp. None of those questions get answered by a revenue beat alone. The post-earnings pattern has been relentlessly negative across the prior four quarters, with the average absolute move running at 16.76%.
What traders watch: The Q3 revenue guide is the fulcrum. Options traders are pricing a 15% to 15.5% move in either direction, implying a post-close trading range of roughly $72 to $99 based on recent price levels near $85. A guide that implies deceleration would likely extend the selloff cycle. A margin recovery signal combined with backlog growth above the Cantor Fitzgerald estimate of $131 billion would be the combination needed to finally break the pattern.
Analyst Targets at a Glance
- Rosenblatt: Buy, $250 price target
- Cantor Fitzgerald: Buy, $167 price target
- Deutsche Bank: Buy, $150 (raised from $135, August 6)
- Piper Sandler: Overweight, $151 (initiated August 3)
- Wells Fargo: Overweight, $155
- Truist Securities: Buy, $126 (upgraded July 22)
- JPMorgan: Neutral, $110 (raised from $105)
- Consensus (S&P Global, 36 analysts): Buy / avg. target $140.85
Nvidia (NVDA) — Infrastructure as an Asset Class
What happened: Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced a $500 billion financing initiative alongside Apollo, Blackstone, Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, Brookfield, and KKR, framing AI chips as long-lived revenue-producing assets eligible for institutional credit and insurance capital. The stock is up roughly 1.5% on the session despite having declined 2.86% Monday on volume of $30 billion.
Why it matters: This is not just a capital raise. It is a structural argument that AI infrastructure financing will look more like commercial real estate than venture capital, which has direct implications for every company in the GPU cloud and neocloud space, including CoreWeave. If institutional credit becomes a standard funding mechanism for compute capacity, CoreWeave’s leverage profile looks less exceptional.
What traders watch: Whether the financing initiative reads as bullish for the AI stack broadly or as a sign that Nvidia is deepening platform control in ways that create dependency risk for pure-play cloud operators. Nvidia reports its own quarter on August 27.
Datadog (DDOG) — AI Observability Proving Out
What happened: Datadog reported Q2 2026 revenue of $1.12 billion, up 36% year-over-year, beating consensus of $1.08 billion. Non-GAAP EPS came in at $0.65, well above the $0.58 estimate. Free cash flow grew 69% year-over-year. Management raised full-year 2026 revenue guidance to $4.45 to $4.47 billion. Shares jumped 11.48% in the session following the report.
Why it matters: The number that matters most is customer composition. Large customers (those paying $100,000 or more annually) rose 23% to approximately 4,720. Non-AI customer revenue growth accelerated to the high 20s percentage range, meaning the beat is not purely an AI story. The one flag: Q3 guidance of $1.135 to $1.145 billion implies 28% to 29% growth, a deceleration from Q2’s 36%. One large customer reduced usage, which is now baked into guidance.
What traders watch: Whether the large-customer usage reduction is a one-time event or the start of a broader pattern in enterprise AI spending. At 11% up in a session, the stock has absorbed significant good news. The deceleration implied by Q3 guidance will be the argument bears use to fade the move.
Sector Watch
AI Infrastructure — Leading
Capital continues to move into AI infrastructure at pace. Nvidia’s $500 billion financing initiative and Datadog’s clean Q2 beat both reinforce the same message: demand for AI compute and observability services is real, growing, and monetizable. The sector is drawing institutional attention beyond software investors, with major alternative asset managers now formally committing to fund data center build-outs through collateralized debt structures.
Whether this is sustainable depends on how tonight’s CoreWeave report lands. CoreWeave is the most heavily leveraged pure-play in the neocloud space, and a strong result would likely lift the entire category: Nebius (NBIS, reporting August 12), and AI cloud adjacencies generally. A disappointing print from CoreWeave would test whether the sector’s rally since July has priced in more than the fundamentals support.
- Leading within AI infrastructure: Nvidia (NVDA), Datadog (DDOG)
- Event-driven tonight: CoreWeave (CRWV)
- Next catalyst: Nebius (NBIS, reports August 12)
Optical / Networking — Lagging
Coherent (COHR) fell 14.24% and Lumentum (LITE) declined 8.61% despite positive policy read-throughs for U.S. optical suppliers. The disconnect between headline tailwinds and price action is worth tracking. When stocks fail to rally on what should be good news, the path of least resistance is lower.
Catalyst Calendar
- Tonight (August 11, after close): CoreWeave (CRWV) Q2 2026 earnings. Conference call at 5:00 PM ET. This is the session’s primary event risk.
- Wednesday, August 12, 8:30 AM ET: July CPI. Consensus expects headline CPI at 3.4% year-over-year (down from 3.5% in June) and core CPI at 2.5%. Prediction market odds suggest the print may come in below consensus. This is the week’s most important macro data point for Fed rate expectations heading into the September meeting.
- Thursday, August 13: July Producer Price Index (PPI). Headline PPI seen +0.2% after a 0.3% decline in June. Also: Bending Spoons (BSP) earnings.
- Wednesday, August 12: Nebius (NBIS) Q2 2026 earnings — the direct CoreWeave comparable in the neocloud space.
- Friday, August 15: July Retail Sales and University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment (first August estimate).
- August 27: Nvidia (NVDA) Q2 2026 earnings — the single most anticipated event for the AI infrastructure complex.
- September FOMC meeting: Rate path depends heavily on this week’s CPI and PPI readings. July payrolls fell 23,000, reducing the probability of a hike, but elevated oil prices and sticky yields are keeping the rate-hike scenario alive.
Technical Radar
S&P 500
The index set all-time highs last week and is now consolidating just below those levels near 7,757. A CPI miss tomorrow (hotter than expected) would likely test the breakout and put last week’s highs in play as the first resistance level. A clean CPI beat (cooler than expected) removes the primary macro obstacle for another leg higher. Watch the 7,700 level as near-term support.
Nasdaq
About 2% from its all-time high. The index fell nearly 10% from its July record to its lows before recovering. That recovery has been orderly. A CoreWeave beat tonight could be the catalyst that closes the remaining gap to the all-time high; a miss would test whether the July recovery holds at the 26,000 level.
CoreWeave (CRWV)
52-week range: $60.55 to $153.20. The stock has been trading near $85 to $87 in recent sessions, well below the 52-week high. The 200-day moving average is the institutional trigger to watch: a post-earnings reaction that reclaims it would be the clearest signal that the character of the stock is changing. Failure to hold $72 (the lower end of the options-implied range) would put the $60.55 52-week low back in sight. Options imply a range of approximately $72 to $99 post-earnings.
10-Year Treasury
At 4.73%, the 10-year is approaching levels last seen in January. The 30-year is near 20-year highs. These are not accommodative conditions for high-multiple, high-leverage growth names. A CPI surprise to the downside tomorrow is the fastest route to yield relief. A hotter reading pushes the 10-year toward the 5% level, which has historically been a pain threshold for equities.
- Breakout candidates: NVDA (if $500B initiative drives fresh institutional interest), DDOG (if Q3 guide deceleration gets faded)
- Breakdown candidates: COHR, LITE (both failing to respond to positive catalysts)
- Relative strength leaders: DDOG, NVDA
- Relative weakness leaders: COHR, LITE, INTC
Risk Radar
- Hot CPI tomorrow: The single biggest near-term macro risk. Consensus is 3.4% year-over-year headline and 2.5% core. A reading above those levels would reinforce the Fed rate-hike argument, push yields higher, and apply direct pressure to growth and leveraged names. Prediction markets currently see a better-than-even chance the print comes in below consensus, but that asymmetry also means a surprise to the upside carries more shock value.
- CoreWeave guidance disappointment: A Q3 revenue guide that implies deceleration, or margin commentary that fails to show Q1 was the trough, would extend the post-earnings selloff pattern into a sixth consecutive quarter. Given that options are pricing a 15% move in either direction, the risk is not just to CRWV: a sharp down move would pressure neocloud peers and could dampen sentiment for the broader AI infrastructure trade ahead of Nvidia’s August 27 report.
- Strait of Hormuz and oil: Peace-talk headlines have pulled Brent back from $89, but no deal is confirmed. A breakdown in negotiations would send oil sharply higher, reignite inflation fears, and push Treasury yields toward the 5% level. Energy costs matter directly for data center operators, including CoreWeave.
- Interest rate / leverage risk: CoreWeave’s balance sheet holds total liabilities of $50.8 billion against stockholders’ equity of $4.76 billion as of Q1 2026. Q2 interest expense was guided at $900 million to $1.1 billion. Any signal that financing costs are accelerating faster than revenue would pressure the stock regardless of the revenue beat.
- Overextended AI sector momentum: Nvidia’s $500 billion financing initiative is a large positive signal, but some investors have flagged concerns about circular trading dynamics within the announced partnerships. If that narrative gains traction, it could create a sentiment headwind for the broader AI infrastructure trade even if fundamentals remain intact.
What is “The Presidio Initiative”?
A single $20 million check delivered to a former military base may have launched the biggest megaproject in American history.
The Cheat Sheet
Top Market Theme
Equities are parked near all-time highs in a holding pattern, with CoreWeave’s after-hours report and Wednesday’s CPI reading as the two events that will determine whether the current consolidation resolves higher or becomes the beginning of a pullback.
Stock to Watch
CoreWeave (CRWV). The catalyst is tonight, the options market is pricing 15% in either direction, and the outcome will ripple across the neocloud space and set the tone for AI infrastructure sentiment ahead of Nvidia’s August 27 report. The one number that matters: Q3 revenue guidance.
Sector to Watch
AI Infrastructure. Nvidia’s $500 billion financing initiative and Datadog’s Q2 beat have both extended the sector’s leadership this week. CoreWeave’s result tonight either validates the thesis or creates the first meaningful crack since July’s recovery.
Biggest Risk
A hotter-than-expected July CPI reading Wednesday morning. With the 10-year at 4.73% and oil still elevated from Strait of Hormuz uncertainty, a CPI surprise would push yields toward 5%, increase the probability of a September rate hike, and apply direct pressure to high-multiple growth names across the market.
Biggest Opportunity
CoreWeave on a constructive print. If Q2 results show margin recovery from Q1’s 1% adjusted operating margin, backlog growth above the $99.4 billion Q1 base, and a Q3 guide that holds the second-half ramp intact, the stock’s 43% discount to the average analyst price target of $140.85 becomes a live conversation rather than a theoretical one. The six-month pattern of post-earnings selloffs breaking would itself be the catalyst.
One Thing to Remember
CoreWeave’s post-earnings pattern has not been driven by revenue misses. It has been driven by the gap between what the income statement shows and what the debt load demands. A revenue beat alone does not close that gap. Margin trajectory and Q3 guidance do. Size accordingly before 5:00 PM ET.
