Brent Dipped to $103. If the Ceasefire Holds, the Fed Has a Problem.

Read Sunday’s Truth Social post as domestic inflation policy, not foreign policy. There was no word from Moscow on the announcement, which followed days of intense pressure from Trump for Ukraine to halt its attacks on Russian oil refineries. He blames those strikes for a rise in diesel prices that is hurting his Republican Party ahead of U.S. midterm elections next month. The geopolitical framing is real; the political calendar behind it is more real.

Hidden in Tesla’s Filing: A $12 Billion “Super Startup”

Pull up Tesla’s most recent SEC filing. Page 5.

And you’ll see a single line showing $12 billion in revenue from a brand-new “super startup” Elon Musk has been quietly incubating inside Tesla.

This new “super startup” has nothing to do with cars or robots or space or AI…

But it sits at the center of what Blackstone calls “a $23 trillion investment opportunity.”

And on October 21, Elon is expected to pull back the curtain and reveal exactly what he’s building.

But Adam O’Dell already knows… and he reveals it all in this urgent video.

Market Snapshot

Brent crude fell $1.54, or 1.47%, to $103.18 a barrel while WTI was at $90.31, down $1.54, or 1.68%. European shares rose and eurozone yields eased on the announcement. The move faded as the session wore on, with both benchmarks recovering from their lows after the ceasefire’s credibility eroded quickly.

Diesel prices hit a record high national average of about $6.53 a gallon on September 22, according to AAA, as the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East took their toll on supply. The AAA national average stood at about $6.28 as of October 11. That compares with about $3.67 per gallon one year earlier. That is the number Trump is trying to move before November 3.

What the Ceasefire Actually Covers

A White House official told Axios that the ceasefire means Russia and Ukraine will stop attacks solely on each other’s oil refineries. Ukraine has only one oil refinery, which is not operating at full capacity. Russia has an extensive refinery network. Axios described the arrangement as a “refinery for refinery” proposal that is not an equal arrangement.

The #1 income play for 2026 is NOT a stock, bond or private company…

Rather, it’s a little-known alternative investment that could hand you a double-digit yield from oil.

Find Out What It Is Right Here

Zelenskyy posted that Ukraine supports the ceasefire and that it is important Russia support it as well. He added that Ukraine would only stop attacking oil refineries if Russia halted its attacks on Ukraine’s electric grid. Ukrainian officials said Russia struck energy infrastructure after the announcement. Neither side has formally confirmed the deal.

KCM Trade chief analyst Tim Waterer said: “Questions remain over the validity and longevity of any such ceasefire, and without clearer evidence that it will actually hold, the extent of the pullback is likely to stay limited.”

Stocks in Focus

The refiner trade is the one to watch Monday. Wall Street analysts expected Valero Energy (VLO), Marathon Petroleum (MPC), and Phillips 66 (PSX) to surpass near-record second-quarter profits posted in June. JPMorgan projected Valero could report $8.95 billion in pretax earnings in the third quarter, up 50% from the prior period. The three refiners closed Thursday at record stock prices and have more than doubled in 2026, adding about $224 billion in combined market value.

If Brent stabilizes here or moves lower on any ceasefire progress, crack spreads narrow. Refiners have been benefiting from widening crack spreads, with crude rising at a slower rate than refined fuel prices. The difference between crude prices Valero’s Gulf Coast refineries buy and the fuel prices they charge widened to an average $47.11 a barrel in the third quarter, up from $30.28 three months earlier. A durable oil pullback compresses that advantage heading into earnings season. Results for all three are due in late October and early November.

The Fed Link

Here is where the political clock intersects with markets beyond crude. The Fed has kept rates at 3.50%–3.75% and has been on pause since its last cut in December 2025. The FOMC noted as recently as July that “inflation remains elevated relative to the Committee’s 2 percent goal, in part reflecting supply shocks that have driven price increases in certain sectors, including energy.”

The Fed has not made any rate cuts in 2026. The current target range remains 3.5%–3.75%. A genuine, sustained drop in diesel and crude prices is one of the few things that could change the path to a December cut. Trump knows this. Analysts question Russia’s capacity to release the agreed volume and doubt it could ease prices even if it could. Trump’s latest effort to ease a diesel supply crunch ahead of November’s midterm elections is unlikely to make a dent in prices, according to analysts.

The Cheat Sheet

  • Top Market Theme: Trump’s energy ceasefire is a domestic inflation move timed to the November 3 midterms, not a confirmed diplomatic agreement.
  • Stock to Watch: Valero (VLO). Record earnings expected in late October; crack spread compression is the risk if Brent extends its decline.
  • Sector to Watch: U.S. oil refining. The group has more than doubled in 2026 on widening margins. Any durable crude pullback tests those valuations into earnings.
  • Biggest Risk: Ceasefire collapse. Ukrainian officials said Russia struck energy infrastructure after the announcement. A reversal could send Brent sharply higher and re-anchor hawkish Fed expectations.
  • Biggest Opportunity: If diesel prices fall measurably before November 3, market odds of a December Fed cut improve. That shifts rate-sensitive sectors that have lagged all year.
  • One Thing to Remember: The oil move on Sunday night was real. The agreement behind it is not yet. Trade the confirmation, not the post.
