A note from our friends at Weiss Ratings(ad)

Dear Reader,

I don’t trust Sam Altman at all …

And neither should you.

Because my research tells me he is hiding something …

Something so potent, so revealing …

It could spark the biggest monetary crisis of our lifetime.

Worse than the Dot-Com Crash …

The housing market collapse …

Even the Great Depression …

COMBINED.

That’s why I suspect he’s using every tool at his disposal to keep this from getting out.

But on Dec. 18, around 4 p.m. …

He will be forced to reveal a document that’s currently confidential.

When he does, it will immediately trigger a $40 trillion wealth shift …

Altman himself has even said …

“Someone is going to lose a phenomenal amount of money … And a lot of people are going to make a phenomenal amount of money.”

P.S. Look, if you wait for OpenAI to go public before you act … you’ll be too late.
Altman is expected to drop this bombshell on Dec. 18 …
Weeks before a potential IPO.
So please, don’t hesitate.

Energy Is Up 45% This Year. Brent at $116 Makes the Next Trade Harder to Size.

Brent futures gained 3.1% on Friday to close at $116.72 a barrel, the highest settlement since April 29. WTI added 3.8% to settle at $103.27. Brent added 6.2% for the week, a third consecutive weekly gain. The move is no longer just a supply-harassment premium. Traders are now pricing direct US military action.

President Trump said Wednesday the US was not negotiating with Iran and something would happen “fairly soon,” as ABC News reported that U.S. and Israeli officials are drawing up plans that could include fresh strikes after the midterm elections. Iran’s army chief confirmed the country is fully prepared for “asymmetric warfare.” Israeli leaders have also planned to target Iran’s oil infrastructure, with Kharg Island a key objective, and the facility handles roughly 90% of Iran’s crude exports.

What the Market Has Already Priced

This is the critical question for portfolio construction today, not whether crude goes higher. Energy has been the market’s standout, but the specific year-to-date gap versus the S&P 500 depends on which cut and date you use. On Friday, the S&P 500 fell 0.52%. The risk-reward is not the same as it was in September, or even last week.

XOM has gained about 48% year-to-date. The earnings beat is large. The stock’s year-to-date gain is larger.

Where the Trade Splits

Two distinct risk profiles now exist inside the energy trade, and conflating them is the mistake to avoid.

Upstream producers (XOM, CVX, OXY): These names benefit directly from higher realized crude prices. Exxon reports fiscal Q3 results on October 30. If Brent holds above $110 into month-end, both prints could clear estimates comfortably. The risk is binary: a diplomatic development before then changes the calculus fast.

Refiners (VLO, MPC): The situation is more nuanced. Valero’s refining margin per barrel of throughput rose to $39.24 from $13.14 a year earlier, effectively tripling in twelve months. But refiners need a wide spread between crude input costs and finished product prices, not just high crude. If Brent pushes toward $120 while gasoline demand softens on price pressure, crack spreads can compress even as the headline oil number rises.

The crack spread math is the mechanism that separates refiners from upstream names at this crude level. Russian diesel export bans and elevated ULSD cracks show why pure refining margin exposure can diverge sharply from flat crude exposure.

Levels to Watch

  • Brent $110: Brent is back above $110 and traders are eyeing $120 as the next big round number.
  • XOM October 30 earnings: Exxon enters the report with support from strong refining margins and elevated oil prices, but expectations and positioning have moved quickly.
  • VLO and MPC crack spreads: Watch the Brent-to-gasoline differential daily. A narrowing spread at high crude costs is the refiners’ specific risk heading into Q4.

The Cheat Sheet

Top Market Theme: The crude rally has graduated from supply disruption to war-pricing, which means it is both more durable and more vulnerable to a single diplomatic headline.

Stock to Watch: VLO. Valero’s Q3 beat is backed by a sharp jump in refining margins. The earnings quality is real. The question is whether $116 crude helps or hurts the next quarter’s crack spread.

Sector to Watch: Energy upstream over refiners. At this crude level, XOM and CVX carry more direct upside to further price escalation with cleaner risk than refiners facing margin compression.

Biggest Risk: A credible breakthrough on Iran diplomacy or a rapid de-escalation that sharply reduces the probability of prolonged disruption would unwind the war premium quickly in stocks that have already priced much of the move.

One Thing to Remember: Energy at $116 Brent is not the same trade as energy at $89 Brent. The hedge has become the crowded long. Size accordingly.
